V&A Refugee Week

Had an interesting afternoon at the V&A museum for the start of the Refugee Week..There is quite a busy calendar of events over this week around not only London but around the country. I had a good talk with the volunteers from Amnesty International who put on a good display of famous refugees that had made new lives around the world.  They were very interested in my Family Link Up project  we were discussing the merits of family befriending to help connect those that are scattered around the world.  We also talked about the amazing success of Razen our Yorkshire Syrian Lass who has made a successful business out of cheese making with our local dairy farmers...  Yorkshire Dama Cheese with approval from HRH Princess Anne.  So a good afternoon of sharing.

I loved this idea that Freedom from Torture had directed. "Write to Life".  Refugees under their care had been given a free reign to chose an artefact from the museum to stimulate writing a story about themselves relating to that artefact.  We had a lovely narration from the throne and how to connect with the Princess within. Scroll down to the last photo I have loaded as there was a wonderful story from the Antique Indian Chess pieces.. The author had learnt to play chess and had learnt about himself through this. It is symbolic of the world leaders and rulers. But he noticed that the little pawn though has to go slowly step by step can get to where he wants to be. He can get there with perseverance. Like the authors experience. He realises he is just a pawn in the game. But he knows how even the pawn can win.
