Today is a memorial service in Tottenham for the late Rev Paul Nicholson.. I would call the "Rebel Rev" as he was an activist for the poor challenging the council tax demanded of those trying to survive on £73.10 a week... he won a case in court as he refused to pay his council tax in a protest.. He formed the Taxpayers against Poverty group taking his concerns into Parliament and speaking at the APPG Poverty, he with expert Economists designed a Housing Bill that would prevent homelessnes..he presented this to the present PM but never got a response...so spent a day on the streets in protest... before he passed away with elderly years .
All his life he lived the message of care and compassion... became a speaker for the group of politicians & social economists Compassion in Politics....in the January before the pandemic lockdown I attended a Compassion in Politics conference in Oxford university....So many speaking sense and with working economic model to ensure all had living dignity...Rev Paul campaigned with dignity too ..so thank you dear man ..thank you
Formed a charity to help the poor challenge the malpolicies of the DWP..
