Medical Student Music talent

Tuesday on Brunel campus ..I wandered into the Arts centre and followed the most beautiful sound of someone playing Chopin on the piano. It was hypnotic and had to follow the sound. I found this delightful medical student playing at one with the piano keyboard. Her hands speaking through the instrument of her love and passion of music  ..her safe haven in music. A place to be connected with every sequence of notes. She saw me watching at the door and nodded that I could come in the room. Ohhh the music so soothing and needed in the present turbulent times.  We had time chatting a good link up of medical student and retired nurse midwife..so lots to share ..we hope to keep in touch. She then played Schubert Impromptu and I was taken on an inner journey.of memories of walking in North Wales by rivers and mountains.. This medical student not only could put on concerts but also therapy workshops to help heal from stress and trauma.. simply reconnect patients to the expression of music. Music speaks for us when we have no words. Music speaks with a language that reaches all ..Music has no borders in the world.

Research chat & tea

I am fully enjoying the input on research that Brunel offers we older retirees through B.O.R.G. Tuesday met with a researcher that is designing two studies on Alzheimer's to look at 1. improving treatments and side effects and 2. Early detection through changes in behaviour. There will to be a link up to Sheffield university to partner the studies.. So looking forward to zoom meetings too. Its so wonderful that we have researchers that care about the journey into our older vulnerable years.

See the steps up to the medical sciences..there is a lift round the back but I keep teasing the staff .." we are not all like Angela Rippon 79 years that can dance the Argentine Tango on Strictly AND run up the stairs after in heels" hhhh 💃👠👠 but I am mastering them steps and was good to have a cup of tea and natter with the researcher.

Tuesday at Brunel Careers Fair

Tuesday I was early on Brunel Campus for an appointment and found there was a careers fair in the Sports Hall.  So went along to see. The students buzzing round stands from teaching, healthcare to accounting, transport and engineering. There are very bright innovative students of engineering that are needed to problem solve new infrastructures for exteme weather resistance. We need new green technologies and mature out of destruction of ourselves and our planet home. So I hope they chose wisely out of the career options and various company offers.. we need a peaceful future for our generations to come on a healthy planet.

Global Share

Global Compassion Coalition with Maria Paula Jimenez  this zoom share was so so needed not only for all but me personally.  I have a Palestinian nurse that I mentored online through his BSc Nursing; MSc Public Health had has done amazing work in improving the Breast Cancer Care pathway with Dr Phillipa Whitford. He has presented work in a zoom conference and has a paper in publication in the European Journal of Oncology. He now works for Medicin sans Frontiere and I met him in person when he came last year to Brussels on his intense training in the MSF HQ . His wife is a teacher and they are expecting a baby. So the horrors of war on Gaza has been a very stressful, worrying and heartbreaking time for me. Crying and feeling so frustrated that I cannot go and help and for there to be peace in this world... with togetherness.... not division and wars and weapons that destroy lives, communities and infrastructures. Just at a time when our Mother Earth is crying too for man to be manKIND to her and all creation.
This zoom meeting to help us all cope with the  pain and worry of the global chaos was so powerful.. Maria has such a calming voice and guided us through a visualisation.... nursing us all through the pain to find our inner connection with the peace and love energy that is in us all..... and surrounds us all in the energy field we are all part of.
The trees outside her window in Columbia drew me in and I felt to connect with their roots and the air around them ....and in my mind eye linked to the trees in the woodland opposite my home. A woodland that I take peace from, enjoy the foxes and the birds there and have just found out we have Monkjac deer in! My neighbour who walks a rescue dog from the Ukraine war told me the other day when she and little Betsy called to see me in my garden...So the zoom not only connected us all in attendance from around the world but connected us to Earth and Nature.. we only knew one another through the screens but somehow felt friends forever as we all thanked one another and Maria for the experience,

A relief when my nurse in Gaza checked in this morning... and I am spending time as can be when his wife checks in too .. we chat and share to help keep her strong and sometimes no words but flower emojis and Prayer emojis just to know we connected. There is a Universal Law that is written in all time for eternity Love wins... We must be careful who and how we choose leaders! We need World Leaders and Politics to be driven by the power of the Wisdom of Peace, love and compassion for one another and all creation on this one planet home we all share. Our Mother Earth cries for this as we need to heal ourselves and the planet from all the ego driven destruction upon our whole being,  .Remember the pandemic lockdown when we behaved ourselves the Earth started to heal, replenish clean air and waterways.. We made friends with the wildlife now coming into our gardens to share time with us all... lol even if the foxes stole my shoes hhhhh still love these foxes... now need to look out of the miniature Monkjac deer as never knew about them all the years living here...

Refugees & Housing

Update: had an interesting zoom time share this last week with Rethink Rebuild Society   A very dynamic Syrian group in Manchester.  I first met up with this group in the APPG Friends of Syria in Parliament so keep in touch on social media platforms. But I think after this brilliant zoom link up with Phil Brown Professor in the Department of Behavioural & Social Sciences Huddersfield University, its time I go along and visit them. I need to plan for a visit up north next year to learn more and share more on all the work going on to help refugees and asylum seekers integrate and be supported through their journey.  There are a few of the slides here scroll down. The recording is on their facebook page and here are details on their website How Housing affects Refugees  I have shared the slides with Juliya, my Ukraine lawyer friend who is now settled near me and as just taken up a post with London Borough of Hillingdon to co-ordinate and advise on Ukrainian refugees. It will be a good model of care link up for her to see what is going on in other geographical areas.

I remember I had a good day of sharing in Sheffield in the early days of my own personal project Family Link Up - Sheffield visit you can read about that day on the link. Also we do have a nationwide group City of Sanctuary UK it is so important to crosslink and learn from one another.
key points that know are important from my experience is that
All refugees are patients with PTSD from not only the situation they escape from in war torn areas but the whole journey of seeking safety and then needing to integrate into the new community they settle in.
So it was good that Phil highlighted the mental care needs and how housing or lack of housing can affect all.
Languages are so important not only to integrate but so we can understand one another. With understanding comes empathy and healing of refugees {and divisions in society!} I highlighted my admiration for the way Oostende in Belgium has a brilliant language course for all migrants to learn Dutch in the Dutch speaking area of Belgium. This is amplified through a network of local volunteers that put on activities. This then leads to work and to settlement as part of the richness of diversity of the community. There can be problems but the Mayor is a brilliant guy for integrating and supporting all citizens. The schools for the children help but the children are like little professors of linguistics picking up on all the languages around them.  In our zoom meeting it was highlighted we need more access to English courses for refugees here. But I personally feel too its to good to open up all our minds to many languages as fun learning and sharing together. see the slide captures now.......
