Kookie Muhretti -Why 2019 is the year for a Personal Stylist

"So it's resolution time. The time where we reflect on our achievements and transgressions and plan to do more or better for the next year. I plan to run again, eat better and really take care of myself, which I think is a realistic plan, plus I've started it already so its more of a continuation! And that's the key: setting realistic goals and pacing yourself. Not going too slow where change is not visible but at the same time not so drastically (unless you can handle it) where you end up going backwards. My question is: what ARE you planning to do differently next year?
Can I make a suggestion?...
Hiring a Personal Stylist! I'm being truly honest here and let me explain why before you switch off..." read on.....

Reindeer special adaption for the Tundra

Been watching some good programmes while sat quiet knitting
Reindeer and me was fascinating on a journey to see the Northern Lights... and I am struck with the adaptation of the Reindeer to the tundra
The Coat
Caribou have a double coat, like the Arctic fox. The fuzzy layer next to the skin holds air and keeps the caribou dry when they have to cross a river. Each hair of the outercoat is hollow and filled with air. This trapped air acts as insulation against loss of body heat, as well as making the animals more buoyant when swimming.
The Feet
Caribou have split-hooves, like a cow. They walk on the middle two toes of each foot, which are covered with hooves. Because there are two hooves instead of one as in the horse, they can spread apart to bear more weight without sinking into snow or wet ground, and also act as paddles when swimming. The hooves also change shape with the seasons. In the summer, the fleshy pad in the center grows thicker, but in the winter it retreats and is overgrown by hair, so the caribou walk on the hard horn of the hoof for cold protection and better traction on snow and ice
The Food
Even the caribou's digestion has adapted to their environment. During the summer they browse and graze like other plant-eaters, but come winter, they've cornered the market on a food source utilized by no other animal -- lichen. Pronounced "lie-ken," a lichen is a two-part plant-like organism composed of a fungus living symbiotically with a green algae or a blue-green bacteria. Some form of it grows on rocks and trees and sand in almost every biome, and in the tundra it can cover the ground like wall-to-wall carpeting. Caribou can smell lichen under deep snow and use their scoop-shaped hooves to dig down to it. They also have developed special bacteria in their gut that help them digest lichen, and their ability to use this abundant but low-nutrition food helps them survive when there's nothing else to eat.

Frankincense a very wise gift

Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh
The benefits and value of Frankincense on health and beauty has been known for centuries..read more nip over to my Marjorie's Yard  Blog and see pages The Story of Frankincense and A Wise Journey with Frankincense
Frankincense essential oil comes from the resin, or sap, inside the Boswellia tree. The sap is extracted and then left to dry and harden. Once hardened, it is then steam distilled to produce a pure essential oil. Frankincense essential oil continues to be one of the most popular essential oils due to its many amazing benefits. The scent it produces is enough to promote peace, tranquillity, and overall wellness in the home.

Economics for the Many

Looking forward to receiving my copy.
Big challenges lie ahead for our society: the rise of automation and the threat of catastrophic climate change. But so, too, do the huge possibilities presented by new technology and better ways of organising our economy in the wake of neoliberalism’s failure. With the election of Jeremy Corbyn as Labour leader, and the extraordinary turnaround in Labour’s fortunes in the 2017 election, we have a real opportunity to build an economy in Britain that is radically fairer, radically more democratic, and radically more sustainable. But we need the right ideas and strategies if we’re going to get there.
Economics for the Many, edited and with an introduction by Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer John McDonnell, features contributions from the participants in his New Economics conferences, including Barry Gardiner, Ann Pettifor, Prem Sikka, and Guy Standing. It covers topics from housing, public ownership, and fairer international trading systems to industrial policy for the twenty-first century and how to tackle tax avoidance and regional imbalances. Together, the essays in this volume lay out a vision for a new economics, one that works for the many, not the few.

Been an active busy day

This one photo sums up a lot done today.  I have been finishing another cardigan for the Family Link Up project this is for one of the older boys in Turkey. Plus been getting more educational resources to trial with a local school where I am helping as a teacher assistant.  The Maths and English books are brilliant and I am going to get some copies for the Family Link Up too.
I have been trying out some adaptive slides for Leen and Celine to understand in the languages they are learning by exposure. But the maths of course is maths whatever the language spoken. Dante feels he can use the books too for the families in Turkey.  He has received a parcel of mine today with a warm thick wool jumper I knit and some goodies..

Grandmother Moon was just a tiny sliver the other evening. She is slowly growing into her full self and reminding us that we grow with knowledge and wisdom gathered each day by the things we do, people we talk to and the things we witness
(Art by SB Mathieu)
just been trying to capture the moon outside the house... I am hopeless at getting the right setting on my camera for moon photos... but you can see the Grandmother through the woodland trees opposite my house.
