Response from Government CPAP & WFA

My MP John McDonell has had a reply from the pensioners minister over my concern for the loss of Winter Fuel Allowance to those OAPs just outside the narrow criteria to qualify.  I had particularly highlighted with John the danger to life of those that are home managed on Continuous Positive Air Pressure {CPAP}in home management of Sleep apnoea. It is important given the fact that air is positive pressured from the room the patient sleeps in that it must be warm air. So there can be no drop in temperature from inability to afford central heating on through the night. My near miss as I wrote on previous blogposts was when my heating went off in just above zero temp and my cat woke me and saved my life. I was falling into hypothermia and could have lost my life. This alerted me to think of all patients home managed on CPAP ....i also asked if an impact analysis had been performed on this policy to limit Winter Fuel Allowance to home managed patients requiring necessary energy driven equipment. Note: [I also wrote to Wes Streeting and the Dept of Health and Social care but have NOT RECEIVED A RESPONSE AS YET! )

So what response did John My MP get from Torsten Bell MP presently Minister for Pensions!

Well despite the letter reference being "Your Ref: CPAP users - 1-2025 " there has been no reference in the letter to the very specific concern of home managed patients on CPAP or indeed any mention of home managed patients on any other necessary equipment that require energy source.

The letter opens with the rhetoric we are hearing in media interviews of hard decisions having to be made to bring Public Finances back under control.   Despite we all being the taxpayers paying in for Public services to be met to support those in need.  The "need" is defined in the letter as those on low income pensioners who need Pension Credit and thus then will qualify for Winter Fuel Allowance.  There is no recognition that the criteria to quality is narrow and restricted not accepting that there are a bulk of OAPs just outside the criteria that do not quality but are not wealthy! They may have eroded savings to live and meet bill pressures and struggling overall but not meeting the criteria for this help.

Interestingly and needs further scrutiny it is stated in the letter that over a 16 week period of promoting Pension Credit that there have been 150,000 applications but he states that 42,000 new awards have been made. So what has become of the remaining 107,000 that applied but not received the award. What was their circumstances to need help and why not given help?

There is a claim that government is completely committed to supporting pensioners and giving them dignity they deserve in retirement. He states the protection of the triple lock will ensure 12 million pensioners will benefit. The State Pension forecasted to increase by around £1900 but what of increasing energy prices and cost of living. Surely this will erode the increase in SP.

There are references to an array of support to remain comfortable and safe in the winter months.
Cold Weather Payments only for the defined low income pensioners.
Warm Home Discount £150 rebate on Electricity - but what of Gas CH?

There is a massive claim to say that gov expect over 3 million households including 1 million pensioners to benefit under the scheme!

**Now this is giving me concern -  there is supposed to be £500 million that the Minister for Energy Consumers has agreed to help energy company customers that are struggling with winter bills.
So this money is given to the suppliers to credit bills and enhance debt write off. BUT does not give any indication on how this is monitored and where and who gets that funding.  This we need to challenge to get an audit on where this money went and what customer cases received this help.
I tried to apply to EON next and submitted in confidence screen captures of my Harefield medical notes but was turned down. They wanted a letter to say I was end of life!!! Not that I was supported in life by my CPAP to cut the risk of hypertension. stroke and cardiac failure the long term effects of Sleep Apnoea ..AND ON THAT NOTE I am saving NHS funding by not being an inpatient of any of those conditions! I am being treated to keep me safe from these life threatening situations.  So still no recognition of my need for help with Winter Fuel Allowance of this a portion of this £500 million!!

All this really hurts me as I write as you know I am a 1950s born woman that has been denied 6years State Pension and now the Ombudsman demand for compensation.  It extra hurts as you know I am a DV survivor in my vulnerable years without the super assets I should have to be a Woman of Financial Substance to weather any energy bills storm increases.

So back to this letter content we are told that the Warm Homes plan to created cleaner energy through Solar and Heat Pumps has been awarded £3.4 billion over the next 3 years  this included £1.8 billion to support fuel poverty to help 225,000 homes lower bills by £200 !?!

I am so wary of all these figures banded around just like Johnson era .. and like me challenging Johnson he could not give any audit data and measures of outcome.  We absolutely need transparency of where this money is going and how used and who helped after all it is our tax money our contributions that are funding this. Yes as an OAP and those on benefits we still pay back to the treasury at the very least VAT on goods and services we purchase. There are many tax channels to return funds back to the treasury. So we really do need #Showusthespreadsheet..

When will the present government recognise Home Managed patients saving NHS by not being Inpatients but needing energy costs help for vital clinical equipment?

Lets see elderly population stats.

Brunel Celebrates Benjamin Zephaniah's life

A day of vibrant colour and friendships as we celebrated the life of Benjamin Zephaniah at Brunel University yesterday. A very well respected Professor that inspired many with his creative writing. The heart of Brunel as was said yesterday. People will always need people and that is what happened yesterday as the day brought people together in a time of sharing. From workshops on writing to music and poetry and even T'ai Chi as both Benjamin and his wife enjoyed.  There were books to buy written by Benjamin for adults and children. Books from those who he had inspired to write too... Well known for his fight for freedom vocal on South Africa and of Palestine.  My Palestinian nurse I sent photos to of the day and he prayed for his soul to Rest in Peace. I wrote on the community board to Rest In Power as his inspirating forever.

Precious

Love this book Precious that I spotted in the British Library last week..
Sat reading the chapter on Rubies as the sun set on Friday evening.. a beautiful rich peach gold slowly sinking into our night ..a night clear sky revealed a beautiful full moon .. Chandra in Hindi .. i said this out loud and an Indian couple stopped me saying how do you know our language...I  explained from time in India ..

I am sharing extracts  from the book in the hope you see what I see and feel what I feel ... This planet home Earth is awesome ... and we are simply a dot on its timeline ... The amazing geographical shifts that have happened over millions of years changing contours hiding seas .. making mountains.. fusing elements ... we find gemstones with their own beauty ..extracted from the dark depths of this planet .to then in sunlight dazzle in refracted light. ..take a moment to take your consciousness to your feet where you are and think of you standing on this Earthly plane in all its splendour... what is down in the core of this life supporting home we are living on ..

NOW think of the delusion that man is greater than this.. the delusion that this planet can be bought and sold to satisfy mans greed and deluded power ego.. ! Think of all the crazy somewhat stupid damage we are doing to this awesome planet ... A planet that has a life of its own an existence that is not dependent on we humans .yet provides all that we need to support our lives and all creation from sea to land from microbes to elephants from crops to feed us to trees and flowers ...

Earth and its life support system is Precious ..lets respect this planet home we all share ..in Shalom Salem Peace Om Shanti..

Where I was reading I was joined by fellow creatures of this Earth
in all their beauty and Majesty.

Togetherness in Care & Compassion

I brought to the meeting the frustrated pain of paediatric nurses desperately wanting to help injured children.. desperate to get vital clinical equipment in to Gaza such as stoma care skin care and bags..Children with severe abdominal injuries with ileostomy ...Healthy children now with life changing injuries because of adults and their sledgehammering tantrums.... Adult leaders failing to have the Maturity of Peace.... there was a plea for all to write to their MPs to take action for some children to be nursed here .. and for equipment to be permitted through in Shalom Salem Peace Om Shanti  🍉🙏🤲🕊🍉
🙏🤲🕊🍉Shalom Salem Peace Om Shanti thank you for the fellowship sharing ... my nurse Mo'men Eid says thank you he saw my photos of our meeting on his WhatsApp..and reports the situation in Gaza is worsening ...

Parliament Shop Votes for Women

Yesterday in Parliament saw the new design stock for the Suffragette history.  I treated myself to the glasses case. I love my Votes for Women glasses case and lens cleaning cloth. There is quite a meaning in that lens cleaning cloth.... as we all need to clean our lens on the world and see clearly what is happening and to see the truth. Absolutely we need to be law makers for the good of all ..not law breakers for the greed of a few!

A Reachout for Evidence

Parliament Survey on Women's Health

The survey updates Women's Health Updates for your information
My additional survey question answer on how valuable was it to have a survey.
" There is a wealth of data experience among all citizens so it is essential to reach out and collect information so that policies can be made to help wellbeing ...that wellbeing in mind body spirit social economic aspects of life. we need policies that understand needs to enhance support particularly when in vulnerable stages of life."

But a subnote we need government ministers and departments to learn hear our voices and action .. We need our MPs letters thats contain our voices and concerns to be promptly answered. Our MPs are to respresent and amplify our voices.
Today the Speaker addressed this point as a number of MPs had expressed frustration that letters not being responded too.. !

Open Lab

Well this Monday been very interesting! There was an Open Lab day at Brunel University where we BORG Brunel Older Reference Group members were invited to meet researchers. There are studies we can take part in as researchers investigate the ageing process and how to improve wellbeing.

The research pieces we looked at and invited to participate were on 1. Reducing Falls Risk through dedicated mental practice. 2. How heat and walking exercise influence blood flow and cardiovascular health. 3.  Research into behavioural changes that may be indicated in early Alzheimer's..

So a very stimulating day we also had a very interesting talk on early embryonic development and myeloid leukaemia in children ... as a look at other research in action.

We are so lucky to have Brunel University in our Borough. I personally feel I can reconnect to my academic background as now retired nurse & midwife...
