Arabic Fashion Webinar

Interesting webinar today discussing the history of Arabic dress. It is fascinating how fashion carries with it sociopolitical history as well a cultural identity. With increase travel how cultural dress can be adopted by those outside the culture. That I identify with has over the years worn sarees, sawar chemise and Arabic influenced clothes. I shy away from defined East West as the Earth is round rotates 360 degrees on its axis.  So I see us all as Global citizens with regional variations of clothes & lifestyle to suit the geographical location we live in. Our ancestors have grown in skills, crafts & designs to beautify and adorn our bodies to suit weather & seasons of the area lived in. But as we travel the globe extensively we adopt regional dress or incorporate into designs in a fusion of cultures.  On thought that is not a modern day occurrence as through history and merchants from around the world, plus explorers.. silks, jewels, embroidery styles were brought to Europe to adorn Kings & Queens and their courtiers.

There are plans and discussions to bring an exhibition with lectures to the V& A museum in London. I eagerly await this as to see the garments, textiles, embroidery & jewelry close up will be wonderful.

Memorial & Thanks Rev Paul Nicholson

Today is a memorial service in Tottenham for the late Rev Paul Nicholson.. I would call the "Rebel Rev" as he was an activist for the poor challenging the council tax demanded of those trying to survive on £73.10 a week... he won a case in court as he refused to pay his council tax in a protest.. He formed the Taxpayers against Poverty group taking his concerns into Parliament and speaking at the APPG Poverty,  he with expert Economists designed a Housing Bill that would prevent homelessnes..he presented this to the present PM but never got a response...so spent a day on the streets in protest... before he passed away with elderly years .
All his life he lived the message of care and compassion... became a speaker for the group of politicians & social economists Compassion in Politics....in the January before the pandemic lockdown I attended a Compassion in Politics conference in Oxford university....So many speaking sense and with working economic model to ensure all had living dignity...Rev Paul campaigned with dignity too ..so thank you dear man ..thank you
Formed a charity to help the poor challenge the malpolicies of the DWP..
Here is the recording of a meeting held in the Dean's Yard Westminster Abbey for the launch of his Social Housing, Affordable Rents & Elimmination of Homelessness Bill Dec 2019 I attended. Deans Yard launch of Social housing, affordable rents & elimination of homelessness bill

Lorraine supports Richard

🙏🚨Lorraine giving caring support for Richard on Hunger Strike outside the Foreign Office..she recognises the frustrating pain he is in to get the love of his life, his wife back to be a complete family again. They talked of a glimmer of hope that Iranian Deputy leader flying in to London for talks with Foreign Secretary..chiefly nuclear weapons...but also the case of Nazanin trapped in political games as UK owes Iran money taken up front from military equipment ordered and never delivered!

🙏🤲pray that the Deputy Leader of Iran does an honourable gesture of bringing Nazanin well back to join her family ..so this family can heal from this traumatic stress and live their lives together in peace...

🚨URGENT You can still lobby (free) your MPs to join the nationwide lobby the Sargent of Arms team suggested ...to help #FreeNazanin but one as to ask where is the PM and his caring support?!

NHS Retirement Fellowship

💞🌹🌺 had a lovely time this afternoon with the local NHS Retirement Fellowship group in Uxbridge. Good to tell we were a mix NHS staff now retired as immediately geled with lots of chatter like when working.  NHSRF

🌺There was a guest speaker a retiree from the English Heritage talking about the great Harmondsworth barn ..near Heathrow Airport...in existence way before the Airport..!!! Stretching back into medieval times.... so interesting and a reminder that Greater London is a coalescence of villages & hamlets....once surrounded by fertile land to produce an abundance of crops Wheat, Barley & Oats...hence the need for barns for threshing & storage. There were fruit orchards that led to jam making too. I hope all got well fed. Some grains taken into Covent Garden market to sell, bringing in revenue for the Harmondsworth Manor.. The architecture is fascinating so well thought out a design that the orginal beams still exist.. Seems fitting in this 2nd week of COP26 and achieving a greener world, especially has we locals faced the issues of proposed extension to Heathrow Airport ..the area not only with homes that will be lost but historical hertiage too. Difficult to balance progression with recession of other enriching facets of life and cultural origins. English Heritage Harmondsworth Great Barn

🌺 The meeting place today carries its own history with a benefactor of Kate Fassnidge ... bless her, her mother so against her lover that they could not msrry until her mother died ...by then too old to bear children..so her charity set up... in the history you will see our previous local MP for Uxbridge Sir John Randall very much part of the community.  Fassnidge Charity
