Pumpkins

PUMPKINS : Native Americans flattened strips of pumpkins, dried them and made mats. They used pumpkin seeds for food and medicine. Dried out pumpkin shells were turned into bowls and containers to store grain, beans and seeds Each tribe developed its own ways to prepare and enjoy the pumpkin

Thinking of future generations in our decisions

"In our every deliberation, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations" quote by
Iroquois Maxim (circa 1700-1800). I find it amazing that something said so long ago is so relevant today

Neighbourhood Art - Copper Button Crafts

It is amazing how life has you cross paths with someone that inspires you.  I was just coming back from the shop after getting some milk and stopped to talk to a lady about the WASPI situation and how dreadful it feels not able to get my State Pension .... I made her aware of the march on Parliament Square on the 10th October.  We got chatting and she told me she is a widow -  her and her friend both lost husbands a few months apart with cancer.  So they have buddied up and started a Copper Button Craft Club - feeling that the way to cope is through the expression of art.  She gave me a card and I am looking forward to going along to the next meeting to see the artwork in action.
They have a facebook page for you to like and keep updated on their work.  Copper Button Crafts

Gran Revolution - Liverpool Labour conference

So grateful to the women that are continuing to get our voices heard for the State Pension we have been robbed off just because we were born in 1950s.  Excellent support at the Labour Conference in Liverpool. I am continuing to cost the NHS in problems from the stress and lack of financial dignity this is causing me. So this situation does not make economic sense at all... we have all paid in tax for near on half a century and not to come to our 60s to be treated like this is utterly shameful of this government! Still we do not have any acknowledgement from Theresa May the PM it is a lot of votes to lose PM by ignoring our shout for fairness.  " eh eh Mrs May how many have you robbed today!"  Come and join us on the 10th October to march from Hyde Park to Parliament Square with us all to help us get our voices heard.  Is this the way to treat Grans & mums that have worked hard all their lives? Shameful we are being pushed into poverty as we enter our most vulnerable years of life.

My amazing eldest daughter and her one kidney!!!!

๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒท๐Ÿƒ‍♀️๐Ÿƒ‍♀️๐Ÿ‹️‍♀️๐Ÿ‹️‍♀️๐ŸŠ‍♀️๐ŸŠ‍♀️Last year we had the shock that my eldest daughter only had ever had one kidney since birth - of course in 1971 when I was expecting her there were no antenatal scans then to check development of babes in the womb. She has always been a strong baby and child and woman - it is only now when she started with raised BP that investigations got the doctors baffled - they could only find one kidney...... so it has been majorly important to preserve the function of this kidney that has been doing the work of two all this time.... last year she had a robotic pyleoplasty with the amazing renal team at Charing Cross Hospital ...... she feels now she wants to join the fundraisers to help raise funds for Kidney research in grateful thanks for the team and all their expertise and help to keep her well..... so she is now training for a fund raising run - she is developing a Justgiving page for you to follow her story and the fundraising team she is building up - can you help many thanks

Rainy cold Sunday - snuggled knitting indoors

Enjoying knitting for my Princesses in Belgium for Family Link Up I completed the lace sleeves now working on the back and front...... I had a good chat with Boshra yesterday on facebook and she sent some adorable photos of the girls on the train enjoying a trip to see other refugee friends.  But has been telling me she needs beds for the girls and other furniture.... I do so wish I could get over to help her but I too and struggling being forbidden my state pension as born in 1954 and unable to get short listed for paid work these days as 64yrs old woman. I have applied for grants for my Family Link Up project but had no response..... if you follow the link to my project you will see how committed I am to befriending and helping to rebuild broken lives.  Boshra and her family have a lot to offer the host country and the world as very intelligent and skilful with a keeness to put back into society for the safety & help they have been given. It is a privilege to know them and have shared with them over the last three and half years...
Can you help me raise £1000 for the trip over to Belgium and to get provisions for them, more art materials for Boshra so she can market her work and educational books and toys for the girls... Leen will need school clothes  We need to get some baking things for the new home kitchen and do some baking together :-) Stock the freezer up for the coming months. The girls need beds and girlie bedroom.  Can we do this together dear helpers? let me know of ideas such as coffee mornings and sponsored runs or cycles... anything that can help this project.

Smile

Un Sourire
Raoul Follereau (1903-1977)Recueil : Le Livre d'amour (1920)
รฉ,
Soyez gรฉnรฉreux donnez-lui le vรดtre,
Car nul n'a autant besoin d'un sourire
Que celui qui ne peut en donner aux autres.

A smile
Raoul Follereau (1903-1977) Collection: The Book of Love (1920)
A smile costs nothing and produces a lot,
It enriches the one who receives it without impoverishing the one who gives it,
It only lasts a moment, but its memory is sometimes eternal,
Nobody is rich enough to do without it,
Nobody is poor enough to deserve it,
It creates happiness in the home, supports business,
He is the sensible sign of friendship,
A smile gives rest to the tired being,
Give courage to the most discouraged
He can not buy himself, nor lend himself, nor steal himself,
Because it is a thing that has value only from the moment it gives itself.
And if, however, you meet someone who does not know how to smile,
Be generous give him yours,
Because no one needs a smile so much
He who can not give to others.

Interesting article on the State Pension

State pension changes in breach of UN law, says academic
This is an interesting article in favour of women born in 1950s who are at the moment refused their state pension - as I was born in 1954 I am affected by this. FT article State Pension by Maria Espadinha
"The government's chosen mechanism to increase the state pension age for women could have breached the UK's international legal obligations under the United Nations women equalities treaty, an academic has said.
Jackie Jones, law professor at the University of the West England, said there could be legal grounds for the state pension age hike for women to be removed and for full restitution.."

Variation on pattern

More knitting on the go for my Princesses in Belgium Family Link Up  varying the pattern with an idea to put in lace sleeves and keep the back and front plain with the lace border on the bottom will show you all when I have finished it.

Grandparents share with children

Grandparents, spend time with children. Teach them the ways of Mother Earth. Talk to them about family stories, sit under the stars and point out where the planets are. The earlier we start sharing with children the sooner they will follow an Earth respected life and your bond with them will grow beyond the love that already exists
