Some screen captures from this morning public webinar on the plans for a new hospital rebuild on the existing site of Hillingdon Hospital. The will be a new fully built hospital on the existing site. The clinical support will continue around the building work. There will be collaboration with Brunel University and their plans for a medical school. So medical students will be on clinical placement at the new hospital. There was only a mention of maternity in passing but no in depth discussion of facilities to cope with the continued and additional demands from Ealing hospital. This demand is on top of a growing population within the London Borough of Hillingdon.
A question was asked about would there be a helipad and the answer was no... so this then confirms we will not be having a major trauma unit despite being close to Heathrow Airport and motorways. There was no mention of the relationship of the hospital with the demands for clinical support from Heathrow with passenger/patients in transit.
There was a question of car parking during building and post building and the answer was yes there would be due consideration for parking. But my thought is that with heavy construction vehicles it is going to be quite a logistic challenge given the small surrounding residential roads with on road parking. The area can be congested at the best of times.
One question was rather amusing given we are talking about a hospital supporting ill patients... someone was more interested if the TV masts would be still in situ for his telly watching as a local resident!!
