We heard from an Orthopaedic surgeon that had been giving care to injured plus nurses that had been caring for injured.. I took my MSF nurse photo with Chris Lockyear International Director of Medicin sans Frontiere so I could be a voice for his work too.
We heard harrowing case histories of injuries that children had.... yes Children injured even targetted by snipers and from sledgehammering tantrums of Adults that fail to be Mature in the Wisdom of Peace on this one planet home we all share. The case histories heard of children with abdominal injuries that resulted in the need for ileostomy and colostomy..yet the humanitarian aid with neccessary stoma bags and skin protective dressings not getting through restricted borders to hospitals. Bandages wrapped round injured children were being used to catch faecal matter. The nurse campaigning for stoma equipment is a Stoma care specialist a senior nurse in our Royal College of Nursing. She is amazing and deserves a medal for all she is doing. I will share more as we plan to meet up.
The meeting was to campaign for injured children to be evacuated for care. That we in the UK need to welcome some cases for specialist care, as other countries are. Before I share some of booklet pages from Children NOT Numbers I want to tell you as we were in the meeting there was the Parliamentary Children's Christmas Party.. I had seen excited children in all their cute partywear having fun, balloons and games ..ALL children in the world need to have a peaceful safe world able to enjoy their childhood and have fun together... that includes Palestinian children.
I also was able to say some words in the meeting on how we need Leaders Mature in the Wisdom of Peace and how our one planet home needs this too. As each missile launched and bombs dropped from whoever and wherever is an attack on every global citizen..as it contributes to the climate crisis.. from sourcing materials to manufacturing weapons and their ultimate destruction of lives and infrastructures. I asked is this what we have come too in 2024 that we sledgehammer one another! Time indeed to evolve from Homo Stupidus to be truly Homo Sapiens wise in peace. For this behaviour is like being in ITU putting our foot on the oxygen tubing .. what use moneymakers making money out of weapons & destruction when no oxygen to breathe and the life support of our planet home lost. I did not expect what happened next in the meeting room ..applause cheers and the table banging in agreement.
So given more of us wish peace and togetherness on this planet then we need Shalom Salem Peace Om Shanti stat ...now as there may never be a future for our children..
