There is research into sleep apnoeas leading to Alzheimer's...and depression... I certainly have been experiencing muscle fatigue and a tiredness that makes you feel like curling up and sleeping through the day .. lol Dormouse Syndrome... Harefield Appointment

πŸ₯πŸ’—got a call to go to Harefield Hospital as a spare Out patient slot today to pick up my CPAP machine for home management of sleep apnoeas. Was early so had time in the chapel ..the stainglass window amazing ..and spooky my year of birth 1954 how my life pathway led to being a nurse and midwife .. My Respiratory technician Alice was so kind with me and calmly explained set up of machine.. mask fitting ..and the start up gradual air pressure from 4 to 8 for night time sleep.. had time to practice and feel the positive pressure air ventilation.. But note this machine needs electric power .John McDonnell MP . So will I get Winter Fuel Allowance and a social tariff. Many patients need energy service help with home medical equipment, management that saves admission to the NHS beds! We are so lucky to have such a specialist hospital in our London Borough of Hillingdon... πŸ’— i loved how someone had left a bag of crotchet butterflies in the chapel as a gifted message to those that found this gift Harefield Sleep Apnoea information
Historical look at Harefield on the staircase to the chapel
Needs electric power!

Concern over Beck Theatre

πŸ•ΊπŸ’ƒ Good discussion today on the value of our local Beck Theatre Hayes. A great entertainment hub respected by many celebrities and artists. Audiences come from far and wide to performances. There is another value in that youth are trained in music, dance &  stage production. We have had local talent that have gone on to perform in the West End.  So there is alarm that we may lose our theatre in the future. Campaigning is under way.  πŸ’žπŸ•ΊπŸ’ƒ

A Day of Care & Networking for Aged

Today was a very busy day in the Pavillions Uxbridge showcasing support, charities, organisations and Brunel University  research into ageing.
A lot of concern today at the Ageing fair in Pavillions Uxbridge.. yes some OAPs can cope but many fall short of Pension Credit criteria but still need help as savings dwindled.. .. we do need emergency APPG Poverty & Disability meeting with energy companies..need social tariff and energy companies crediting accounts of vulnerable... today touch me about blind and Alzheimer's surely out of human care compassion they should be helped... and patients managed at home with medical equipment that needs power. This policy should have had impact analysis and debate in parliament! I still draw attention to cold environment leads to poor muscle and joint performance so mobility worsens then falls risk falls risk # NOF thst needs NHS emergency admission for orthopaedic surgery and post op rehabilitation.. so transfers cost to NHS ... how then this balances books ????

Rainbow Children's Day Unit

Dropped off some more knitting to the Rainbow Children's Day Unit  at Hillingdon Hospital today.. in my dedication to Princess Zainah, my Palestinian MSF nurse's daughter in Gaza. I cannot get knitting to them like when I have for my Syrian refugee children  - so as my nurse has cared in oncology and has an article published in the European Journal of Oncology Nursing,  then I dedicate to his beautiful daughter. Zainah is 6 months now.. My nurse sends love to the staff and children here in my local hospital. A born nurse that cares for all.

To day the receptionist told me is Children Cancer Awareness month I have found this link Children's Cancer Awareness Children are so brave with treatments ..so good we have kind caring skilful staff to help on the journey of healing. Plus support parents.

πŸ’žLovely to see other keen knitters are donating too. πŸ’ž

There are community events too in support of families.

Covent Garden & Meet Up

What a lovely afternoon yesterday in Covent Garden and a meet up with my peace activist Turkish friend, Ceren.  We met on the peace marches and have become strong friends since. My international projects and my activism links up with her activism and experience. So we are Sisters together in our aim for Peace and harmony in this world and stopping the madness we are seeing in the world.
We had a good catch up time in the Royal Opera House coffee area.  Then Ceren was off to ballet.  I had thought she was booked for a ballet production but no she was off to ballet lessons. Not in the Opera House but at the Pineapple Studios apparently they do classes for over 40s and those that cannot get their leg up high anymore lol .. when I look at the website wowee there is so much going on there.. Maybe just maybe when I get my energy back from the CPAP treatment of my Sleep apnoes this 70 year old could do some dance too ... Silver Swan lol

My journey to Covent Garden went well on the Elizabeth line from Hayes to Bond street then I took the 139 bus taking me to a stop close to Covent Garden on the Strand. The walk through Covent Garden was a pleasure looking at the wonderful gift ideas and talking with stall holders and traders. So here are some images to enjoy and in the hope to give some trade to them all.. Certainly if you are visiting London Covent Garden is a must experience from artwork, to scented candles to jewellery to wacky ties with also cafes, restaurants, street entertainers and of course the
Royal Opera House

I enjoyed Heidi and her artwork. We had a good talk together but my love of foxes led to unable to resist buying the F Fox artwork. Love it! when I think lovely idea for children to decorate their bedroom with Alphabet artwork.

Parliament & Downing Street

Had a very constructive afternoon in Parliament on Wednesday with a very good lobbying time with John McDonnell my MP. I had submitted on my lobbyslip a mini shopping list of issues I needed to update on with John. I had a top priority concern update on the safety of my MSF nurse in Gaza with his wife and baby. Help needed for my MSF Nurse . With this the need to stop the horrors there.
I had of course domestically great concern over the Winter Fuel Allowance and the impact on those that will fall outside the parameter of the pension credit. John had that day also been supporting we 1950s born women that still are outstanding the Parliamentary ombudsmen compensation for lost 6 years State Pension.
I also had some update on my Syrian refugees in Turkey. So lots to discuss.

As always the parliamentary staff are so kind and caring of me. I have indeed spent much time in parliament over my recent years on various campaigns and need to get my voice heard for many in APPG meetings. So the rapport with the parliament staff is good and longstanding. This day though I was treated to a look at the Chapel  St Mary Undercroft  it was quite a wonderful experience. The decoration amazing. I was fascinated to find out that MPs can get married in this chapel and there is a beautiful font for christening babies.
But the most intriguing experience for me with all my activist work was to see and be in the cupboard that Emily Davidson a Suffragette hid in on the census of that day. To claim her place and right to vote.  I have found this link to tell the story Emily Davidson - Cupboard Parliament
Before leaving the chapel I was given opportunity to have some prayer time my prayers for Shalom Salem Peace Om Shanti in the world and our maturity in this to work together in harmony on this one Planet Home we all Share.

With this I went on to Downing Street to join our multi faith group in a demo to support Palestine and stop the madness. We are all in pain at what we are witnessing the sledgehammering of Gaza with no mercy and with more and more war crimes committed by the occupation forces. The West Bank also becoming more and more of concern with horrors against Palestinians and their homes there. This pain is being felt all over the globe. I caught a news report from Australia on demos there and a man interviewed breaking down in tears with the pain of what he is seeing. WE are reeling with the image of that huge crater from a massive bomb dropped on the tented area where displaced people were sleeping. The imagery hard to comprehend that there is nothing left of those people!  This warmongering is hurting us all. Scientifically is also contributing to the climate crisis. Each missile launched in the world be it Middle East Russia Sudan North Korea is indeed an attack on us all as the damage this is causing not only the target areas is affecting our Earth. How crazy we have become. We launch astronauts into space that can relay images of our beautiful planet. Yet on that planet such human madness is destroying this wonderful precious home we share. When we look from space to Earth there are no borders on the land. But our satellites can see before and after any crazy war tantrum on an area of this planet home.
Please it really is time for us to have Leaders in the World that are MATURE in the Wisdom of Peace and living together in harmony with all our energy put into undoing our damage on this Earth. Intelligence used constructively not destructively. Instead of sledgehammer destruction of infrastructures, we need to build and modify infrastructures to cope with extreme weathers and learn and learn from our lockdown in the pandemic that if we behave... our Earth does have the ability to regenerate and restore heal and continue to support all life...

Do not let deluded power ego with its greed and land grab and outright foolishness spoil our one an only planet home for our future generations. The way we are going without correcting our destructive trajectory will result in no future for life on Earth.

Shalom Salem Peace Om Shanti

Framing Effective Health Messages Brunel,

I attended a brilliant day conference at Brunel University on Tuesday looking at Framing Effective Health Messages on ageing. The day as per the programme introduction aim was:
" to bring older people, members of the Brunel Older Reference Group, together with experts in soical psychology, marketing, diet, exercise and the epidemiology of healthy ageing to examine ....(this is the crucial point) ...best practice......"
This was to ensure identification of the barriers to healthy lifestyles and develop a shared understanding of what is needed to benefit older people.
I cannot of course discuss this day without reference to the latest political decision to withdraw Winter Fuel Allowance from the elderly. Though we must point out that this is to those over the threshold of Pension Credit, however not all over the threshold set are wealthy have savings or little savings to cope with the rising cost of heating homes. The warmth in our homes for winter cold is indeed necessary for the we  elderly. Our muscles and joints do not work as well when cold so we become a falls risk with added cost the NHS, many have health conditions that need warmth in winter eg hypothyrodism even in with thyroxine medication can make the suffer more at risk of cold weather and ambience. This is due to lowered metabolic rate. There are those  with respiratory problems that are more susceptible to cold weather. There are those that need medical equipment to support their medical conditions at home.
Something I need to point out this constant political battering of we elderly from 1950s born women deprived of 6 years State Pension to bed blocking in the NHS, to policies such as this winter fuel debate, all can make us feel a nuisance and burden on society and the taxpayers.   Yet we have worked hard and contributed much to the nation and continue to pay tax by the very least on goods and services purchases. We also as the marketing input can prove how we have a market worthiness and we keep professional carers, product producers in business to cater for our living needs. Where would SAGA holidays be without we elders? What of our families needing our grandma and grandpa input to help with our grandchildren. What of being full of life experience and wisdom of our life pathway. What of our working and professional academic backgrounds that can enhance others and their studies and research to develop more understand of us all as human beings with mind, body and spiritual needs. So I have to highlight that I am so grateful of our local university for giving us a value, respecting all we have to offer. How, as I have said many times, how wonderful it feels to have young and old coming together to learn and share with one another.
This day's study had speakers from the University of Brighton and University of Birmingham. So this too strengthening a network of researchers and supporters of ageing and trying to find ways to age well. scroll down for useful links:-
