Regents Park Mosque - King George VI

🌸Very pleasant afternoon at the King George VI Mosque in Regents Park.... love the walk through the park and lovely to get the first glimpse of the mosque between the trees. Great story of our Queens Father giving the royal land for a Mosque and educational centre to be built; it was out of thanks for the British Muslims that fought in WW2. The King laid the foundation stone to the building. The educational centre is for people to come along and learn about Islam whether they embrace it or not. This afternoon we had a talk from a Christian vicar that is now a Muslim, so was comparing the message and practices.....Good to remember as we move towards Ramadan that before Easter the Christians fast too... We have many Christians and Jews that join the fast in the Mosque and help with the evening feast. As we discussed Ramadan we were acknowledging that many are needing food banks and going hungry with the present welfare reforms. So we made a pledge to check on neighbours and see if they had eaten and to share food. Today was the monthly Sunday afternoon of sharing with non Muslims and new Muslims..... If you look at the audience photo we have women and men mixing and there is no pressure for women to wear hijab... the main is for all to be welcome learn and share. .. in the prayer room covering is used out of respect and it feels good to cover and just focus on the peace of the prayer room
🌷Great to see the Palestinian Zaytoun Dates in the Mosque ...
