Pro Active Sunday on Climate Change

I had an amazing time of sharing at the Uxbridge Civic Centre today.  It was like we all came together as a family to sit and look at the Climate Crises and see what we can do to help heal the Earth. Our one and only Planet Home needs urgent help and for us to use our intelligence intelligently instead of wrecklessly.  The day was organised by the local Labour group and the candidate for Uxbridge & South Ruislip Ali Milani.. A very hard working local guy that will be a major asset to the London of Borough of Hillingdon as an MP. The workshop was part of the Labour Green Industrial Revolution Consultation a nationwide reach out to listen to peoples worries, fears and solutions to help stop the Climate Crisis.

We were very privileged to have Rebecca Long Bailey as a guest speaker. Rebecca is the Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. It is the first time I have met Rebecca despite all my attendance to Parliament APPG groups linked to my projects - Family Link UpWomen's Voices to be Heard   I immediately gelled with her as she is a great listener, she really engages with you and you feel what you have to say has a value. There is no feeling of being rushed or simply passing by and or a cursory attempt at listening. She truly does engage and remembers what has been said and discussed.

This photo I captured of her listening to one of our local residents.

During the day we listened to the youth who of course have all their lives ahead of them and so all actions must be to safeguard the planet for them and their children. it is important we listen to the youth especially as there are some that are standing out with innovative ideas.  A point I put to the group today, is that we should ensure they are fast streamed into Universities to be able to develop an integrated approach to correct the Climate Crisis. There should be no financial barrier to studies.  This must involve engineering technology, physics but has to involve biological and ecosystem knowledge and expertise. There has to be a deep understanding of Gaia, the organism of Earth itself as there is clear evidence that what we do in one part of the Earth it has an effect on another part.  So the workings of geographical structure and how the flora and fauna fit into the overall harmonisation of the working of the planet is vital for success. As I type this I think wow we are so lucky to have a passionate man like Sir David Attenborough to have made us all aware of the beauty and the strength of our Planet - but also the fragility of our Earth with our constant abuse of its system to create gross imbalance. We know there are laws of adaptation but adaptation can only occur with time allowed for this.. The way we are abusing our home, Planet Earth is so extensive that it will take an incredible time to heal. Follow this link to see the questions asked of Sir David in the Parliament Committee on Climate Change his answers a useful resource for understanding the whole situation and how urgent it is to act NOW!

My other point on listening to the youth is that I strongly believe we need a third house in parliament that of a Youth Parliament so they can be listened too and help in policy making for their future.

Today we had table top workshops to answer questions posed to us:
What should a Green Industrial Revolution look like in London?
There's no time to wait, what can we do now?

I had some time with Rebecca to express my concern over this Brexit melarky we have fallen into and how we are to walk away from the EU Climate Change Disaster Fund... Given we have had some horrendous floods and a near miss with dam weakening that could have washed away a whole village... do we really want to walk away from the collective help of the EU?

I discussed with Rebecca that not only is there solar power and wind power but the kinetic energy of the sea - a power source surrounding our British Isles! The wave power stations do not have to be eye sores on the coastline but help to enhance it.  We also discussed Pavegen footfall kinetic energy from specially designed pavement slabs...

I will be posting more on climate change as I research more and review articles and documentaries... One area I am feeling a need to look at is soil erosion - as a keen gardener soil is my love and gives me much pleasure with the flowers grown.  We need to look at farming techniques and ways to win through the new challenges we face.

As you can see from the photo I was wearing my WASPI suffragette sash and my blue badge for #FreeNazanin... always trying to be a voice for all in need of being listened to and helped. Good how Ali Milani was keen to have a selfie to show his support too!
